Winter Festival 2024
2024’s programme celebrated musical friendships, inspirations and dedications
Two concerts at Hellens Manor over the opening weekend focused on Haydn and Schubert, their links, two generations apart, with the aristocratic Esterhazy family, and the younger composer’s reverence for the elder. Other concerts focused on individual figures who inspired musicians around them: Ignaz Schuppanzigh, the violinist who premiered multiple chamber works by both Beethoven and Schubert; Hans von Bülow, influential pianist and conductor, who championed music by both Brahms and Wagner; Eugène Ysaÿe, the ‘King of the Violin’, who was also himself a fine composer.
There were 6 events in the 2024 Festival across Hellens Manor, Monmouth and the surrounding area. A programme of wonderful, varied masterpieces spanning two centuries.
