“The course at Treowen was an incredible week that has and will continue to have a huge impact on my music-making, made such an amazing experience by the many opportunities for coaching and playing alongside the tutors along with the surroundings and the hospitality from the team.”   Residency student, 2024

The Summer Residency – held for the first time in July 2015 – takes the tradition of music making fostered at the February Festival and seeks to pass this on to a new generation of chamber musicians. A combination of coaching, rehearsal and performance, the Residency offers emerging ensembles the chance to learn from and play alongside experienced tutors, culminating in public concerts. This approach aims to bridge the gap between academic study and the professional music world, offering young musicians not only masterclasses, but a platform for public performance in a festival atmosphere. The Residency is based at Treowen Manor, near Monmouth.

The Summer Residency 2026 student bursaries are generously supported by the Fidelio Charitable Trust, the Inchrye Trust, Spoffs Scholarship Fund, Albert and Eugenie Frost Music Trust and individual donors Janet & Peter Cuthbert-Smith, Celia & Oliver Hinton, Dr Ann Robinson (in memory of Prof Michael Robinson), Alan Sainer, and others who wish to remain anonymous.
