Kate Gould – Cello

Kate Gould​ formed the​ Leopold String Trio​ 1991. They attained schemes and awards from ECHO Rising Stars, BBC New Generations, Borletti-Buitoni Trust and Royal Philharmonic Society and sustained a distinguished career for twenty one years, culminating in a live Radio 3 broadcast of the Tippett Triple Concerto with the BBC Symphony Orchestra at London’s Barbican Centre. They were Hyperion Records artists and collaborated with pianists Paul Lewis and Marc Andre Hamelin for their Schubert, Mozart and Brahms discs.

Kate now enjoys playing piano trios with Daniel Tong and David Adams in the ​London Bridge Trio​. They are recording the complete trios by Schumann and Mendelssohn – Clara and Fanny included. The first disc achieved glowing reviews in the Telegraph, BBC Music Magazine and Gramophone. In February 2020 the London Bridge Trio will perform various works, including two Beethoven Cello Sonatas, at Martin Randall’s Beethoven at The Castle, Taunton. The trio features each spring at the flourishing ​Winchester Chamber Music Festival​, which celebrated its tenth year by commissioning a piano trio by Colin Matthews, which they will perform at Wigmore Hall on 31st March 2020.

Kate also established the ​Ironstone Chamber Music Festival​ which takes place every September. Recent festival invitations include Aldeburgh, Peasmarsh, Corbridge, Penarth, Wye Valley and Folkestone Saconni chamber music festivals and regular visits to Festival de los Siete Lagos, north Patagonia. Kate has been a member of the ​Chamber Orchestra of Europe​ since 2000 and often works as guest principal cellist in British orchestras and abroad. She plays on a Carlo Guiseppe Testori Cello, Milan 1711, and enjoys using gut strings for period performance work. She is also a keen teacher and chamber music coach.
