Quartet in Residence – How To Apply

Due to Covid cancellations in 2021 and 2022 the Brompton Quartet are now Quartet in Residence for 2023, therefore we will not be taking applications for the Residency this year. 

 

Application for the 2023 Quartet in Residence

We are looking for our resident string quartet – an ensemble who would like the opportunity to join a group of inspiring artists, perform alongside them, receive coaching, and experience one of the UK’s leading chamber events. All accommodation, board and tuition fees are covered.

The festival welcomes artists of international standing including festival directors Daniel Tong and Simon Crawford-Phillips, Malin Broman, Kate Gould, David Adams, Mathilde Milwidsky, Alice Neary, Tom Dunn and Robert Plane.

Festival dates: Sunday 13th February – Sunday 20th February 2022

Closing date for applications: 14th November 2021

The successful quartet will:

Perform a work from their repertoire at the 2022 festival. This will be at the quartet’s discretion unless the work is already programmed.

Perform a work with one or more festival artists, rehearsed at the festival.

Receive daily coaching from a range of festival artists.

Be in residence at Treowen Manor, Monmouthshire. Rehearse, dine and socialise with the festival musicians.

Attend all festival concerts.

Be given free accommodation and meals for the duration of the festival.

You will be responsible for making your own travel arrangements to Treowen Manor and all travel costs. There are no fees for performances for any of the artists at the Wye Valley Chamber Music Festival.

Application procedure: 

In order to be eligible, two or more members of the quartet should be in full time education or have recently graduated (Summer 2020 or 2021).

Please send an application by email to info@wyevalleyfestival.com which should include:

  1. A contact address, phone number and email for your quartet.
  2. Details of each member’s musical education.
  3. A biography for your quartet with details of performances and prizes as applicable.
  4. Two references from musicians of standing who have heard your quartet in performance.
  5. A covering letter, telling us why you’d like the opportunity to come to the Wye Valley Chamber Music Festival.

The closing date for application is 14th November 2021.
 Quartets will be notified  by the 17th Nov by email to let them know whether they will be asked for audition.
