Festival a success in spite of the Weather!

Treowen Manor in the Snow

Despite snow and floods, our eleventh Wye Valley Chamber Music Festival took place between 8th and 17th January this year (2010). Huge thanks to all who helped in a monumental effort that involved finding a new venue at short notice to replace Treowen (when it was unreachable due to the snow) and rescheduling a concert when St Briavels twice became inaccessible. The spirit of goodwill and determination that meant that the concerts could go ahead was extraordinary, as was the commitment of audience members, resolved to make it to the venues at all costs.

All those who were at the performances witnessed music-making of real quality in an atmosphere that became very special. Many thanks to the musicians who provided breathtaking chamber music in difficult circumstances. The final weekend, with spoken contributions from Stephen Walsh and Simon Crawford-Phillips as well as a wealth of stunning music, was truly memorable, as were the concerts in Monmouth and Hereford earlier in the week. All in all, a year to be proud of!
